Airports
The airport dataset is built from OurAirports, a community-maintained database released to the public domain and rebuilt nightly.
How it is filtered
OurAirports lists over 86,000 entries, the overwhelming majority of them heliports, seaplane bases, private strips and closed fields that no itinerary would ever use. We keep only entries that have a three-letter IATA code and are flagged as having scheduled commercial service. That leaves 4,133 airports across 234 countries and territories.
Timezones
OurAirports does not carry timezones. Each airport’s IANA timezone is derived from its coordinates during the build using the timezonefinder library, giving 373 distinct zones. The build fails rather than publishing if any airport cannot be resolved, so there are no gaps.
Licence and attribution
OurAirports states its data is released to the public domain. Country names come from the same source. Airline and airport names appear for identification only and remain the property of their owners.
Accuracy
The dataset is community-maintained and can contain errors or lag real-world changes. Airport names, city names and codes change. Do not rely on anything here for an operational decision — check with the airline or the airport directly.
